Christine Andrews is the Project Manager for the CPRIT funded Get F.I.T. to Stay Fit Colorectal Cancer screening project at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (TTUHSC) on the Amarillo campus. The highly successful project has been in place since 2015 and is currently in their third CPRIT grant funding cycle. Since inception, the Get F.I.T. project has educated over 12,000 people about CRC, provided over 6500 F.I.T. kits, performed more than 500 colonoscopies, and removed over 450 pre-cancerous polyps. Christine’s CPRIT work involves coordinating the team to ensure that both patients and health care professionals are educated about the importance of colorectal cancer screening, colorectal cancer signs and symptoms, and what the Get F.I.T. project can offer for under and uninsured Texans in the panhandle. She’s also tasked with making sure patient care and navigation are seamless and compassionate for participants. The project spans a 32-county area in the Texas Panhandle, which encompasses both the medical hub for the area in Amarillo and extremely rural agricultural, petroleum, and renewable energy producing counties.
Christine has worked in project management in higher education institutions for over 20 years in both New Mexico and Texas. She earned both a bachelor's degree in journalism and mass communication and a master's degree in educational administration at New Mexico State University in Las Cruces. Her roots are in the New Mexico Community College system where she wore many hats learning both the student service and instructional sides of higher education as well as becoming proficient in grant writing and management. She has a history of social service as well that includes serving on a local school board, a credit union board, a few years as the City Clerk in a small, rural New Mexico town, and a philanthropic community service sorority. Christine is a native New Mexican who moved to Texas for love! In her spare time, Christine enjoys cooking and spending time with her children and grandchildren.
